#6 Abasgadzhi Magomedov (RUS) moved back down to 61 KG where he won the Kadyrov Cup over #6 (61) Muslim Mekhtikhanov (RUS) and is currently ranked #2 at 61 KG behind reigning world champion #1 Zavur Uguev (RUS). #9 Abdulmazhid Kudiev (TJK) lost in the quarterfinals of the 70 KG Kadyrov Cup to Sanzar Dozhanov (KAZ) and has been removed from the rankings due to Dozhanov being unranked at 70 KG, which causes two new spots to open up in the rankings going to Kadyrov Cup champion Adam Arkhiev (RUS) at #16 and Khadartsev Cup runner-up Aripgadzhi Abdulaev (RUS) at #18.

#10 Sujeet Sujeet (IND) won the U23 World Championships over #3 Umidjon Jalolov (UZB) with #8 Bilol Sharip Uulu (KGZ) and #11 Bashir Magomedov (RUS) taking bronze. #10 Sujeet Sujeet (IND) moves up six spots to #4 for beating #3 (now #5) Umidjon Jalolov (UZB) and #11 (now #9) Bashir Magomedov (RUS) at U23 World Championships. 70 KG

#12 Viktor Rassadin (TJK) won the Kadyrov Cup over Ebrahim Elahi (IRI) with #16 Magomed-Emi Eltemirov (RUS) and Sanzhar Dozhanov (KAZ) taking bronze. Ebrahim Elahi (IRI), bronze at the Junior World Championships in August, had two ranked wins at the Kadyrov Cup over #10 Abdurakhman Dalgatov (RUS) and #16 Magomed-Emi Eltemirov (RUS); #16 Eltemirov beat #10 Dalgatov for bronze.

For his performance at the Kadyrov Cup, Ebrahim Elahi (IRI) debuts in the rankings at #11, while #16 Magomed-Emi Eltemirov (RUS) moves up four spots to #12 for beating #10 Abdurakhman Dalgatov (RUS), who falls three spots for his losses to #11 Ebrahim Elahi (IRI) and #12 Magomed-Emi Eltemirov (RUS). #12 Viktor Rassadin (TJK) moves up four spots to #8 for his performance at the Kadyrov Cup along with the strength of his resume (wins over #1 (79) Georgios Kougioumtsidis, ‘24 74 KG Olympic bronze medalist Chermen Valiev, #4 Ernazar Akmataliev, and #5 Tulga Tumur Ochir). What limits Rassadin from rising higher is his loss to #7 Arman Andreasyan (ARM) from the 2025 Senior World Championships quarterfinals.

#20 Kanan Heybatov (AZE) won the U23 World Championships over Sina Khalili (IRI) with PJ Duke (USA) and Alexandr Gaidarli (MDA) taking bronze. Sina Khalili (IRI) returns to the rankings at #16 due to past wins over #5 Tulga Tumur Ochir (MGL), Kurban Shiraev (RUS), and Amir Mohammad Yazdani (IRI). #20 Kanan Heybatov (AZE) goes up five spots in the rankings to #15 for beating #16 Sina Khalili (IRI) in the U23 World Finals.

Kurban Shiraev (RUS) returns to the rankings at #17 for avenging his semifinals loss from Russian Nationals to Russian Nationals silver medalist #13 (now #18) Konstantin Kaprynov (RUS) in the finals of the Khadartsev Brothers Cup. Bronze medalists at the Khadartsev Brothers Cup were Mustafo Akhmedov (TJK) and Gadzhimurad Gadzhiev (RUS).

74 KG

#2 Chermen Valiev (ALB) was removed from the rankings due to extended inactivity caused by knee surgery due to injuries suffered in his world finals match against #1 Kota Takahashi (JPN).

#10 Alan Kudzoev (RUS) won the Khadartsev Brothers Cup over #7 (now #8) Imam Ganishov (RUS) with #19 Anzor Zakuev (RUS) and Alexander Baltuev (RUS) taking bronze. #10 Alan Kudzoev (RUS) moves up three spots to #7 for beating #7 (now #8) Imam Ganishov (RUS) in the finals of the Khadartsev Brothers Cup.

#16 Inalbek Sheriev (RUS) won the Kadyrov Cup over Ismail Khaniev (RUS) with #12 Aznaur Tavaev (RUS) and Seyfulla Itaev (FRA) taking bronze. #16 Inalbek Sheriev (RUS) moves up seven spots to #9 for his win over #12 Aznaur Tavaev (RUS) at the Kadyrov Cup. This happened due to the fact that Sheriev has a past win over #10 Magomed Dibirgadzhiev (RUS). #3 David Carr (USA) beat Amr Reda (EGY) 18-6 at RAF 2. #4 Taimuraz Salkazanov (SVK) beat James Green (USA) 4-4 at RAF 2.

#5 Mitchell Mesenbrink (USA) won the U23 World Championships over Muhammed Ozmus (TUR) with #2 (70) Yoshinosuke Aoyagi (JPN) and Manuel Wagin (GER) taking bronze. #5 Mitchell Mesenbrink (USA) notched a huge win in the semifinals over reigning 70 KG world champion #2 (70) Yoshinosuke Aoyagi (JPN; Aoyagi’s bronze medal finish in Novi Sad puts his career U23 medal total at 3, with a 2023 silver and 2024 bronze both at 74 KG.

79 KG

#6 (74) Murad Kuramagomedov (HUN) beat #15 (now #20) Gadzhimurad Alikhmaev (RUS) while wrestling for ASV Schorndorf in the Bundesliga Wrestling League at 80 KG.

Malamagomed Gamzatov (RUS) won the Kadyrov Cup over Magomedmurad Yakhiev (RUS) with Kasum Kasumov (RUS) and Said Saidulov (RUS) taking bronze. #12 Mokhamad Nasirkhaev (RUS) has been removed from the rankings due to an unranked loss to Ibrahim Yaprak (TUR) in the quarterfinals of the Kadyrov Cup.

Malamagomed Gamzatov (RUS) enters the rankings at #19 for beating #15 (now #20) Gadzhimurad Alikhmaev (RUS) and Magomedmurad Yakhiev (RUS) to win the Kadyrov Cup. Gamzatov is prevented from being higher in the rankings due to a loss in May in the Ali Aliyev finals to #15 Kamil Abdulvagabov (RUS) and a loss to #18 Nikita Suchkov (RUS) at the Khadartsev Brothers Cup. #11 (74) Rezuan Kazharov (RUS) competed up at 79 KG for the Kadyrov Cup and lost in the qualifying round to Said Saidulov (RUS).

Suldkhuu Olanbayar (MGL) won the Khadartsev Brothers Cup over Dmitri Kuprin (RUS) with Nikita Suchkov (RUS) and Magomed Magomaev (RUS) taking bronze. Suldkhuu Olanbayar (MGL) is back in the rankings at #16 after winning the Khadartsev Brothers Cup with wins over #18 Nikita Suchkov (RUS) and #17 Dmitri Kuprin (RUS). Dmitri Kuprin (RUS) takes the #17 spot in the rankings for taking silver at the Khadartsev Brothers Cup were he beat 2024 Senior world runner-up Magomed Magomaev (RUS) and David Betanov (RUS) to make the finals. I had mistakenly omitted U23 Russian Nationals runner-up Magomed Kardanov (RUS) from the rankings. Kardanov has a victory from August in the U23 Russian Nationals semifinals over #15 Kamil Abdulvagabov (RUS), thus allowing Kardanov to take the #14 spot in the rankings.

#2 Levi Haines (USA) won the U23 World Championships over Ibrahim Yaprak (TUR) with #7 Mehdi Yousefi (IRI) and Geannis Garzon Tamayo (CUB) taking bronze.

Mehdi Yousefi (IRI) has returned to the rankings at #7 due to ranked victories over #11 Magomet Evloev (TJK), 2024 Senior world runner-up Magomed Magomaev (RUS), #3 Khidir Saipudinov (BRN), and #12 Davud Daudov (RUS). Along with this, Yousefi has strong tournament placements over the past year at the following tournaments; 2025 Senior Asian gold, 2024 U23 gold, 2025 Junior world gold. Yousefi was incorrectly removed from the rankings due overreaction to a poorly aged loss to now unranked Zelimkhan Khadjiev (FRA) from the Zagreb Open finals in February, Yousefi’s stability and strong resume allow for him to sit right outside of the top six of the weight of past and current world medalists of Georgios Kougioumtsidis, Levi Haines, Khidir Saipudinov, Mohammad Nokhodi, and Vladimeri Gamkrelidze.

86 KG

#11 Artur Naifonov (RUS) won the Khadartsev Brothers Cup over #8 Ali Tcokaev (AZE) with Alan Naifonov (RUS) and #15 (79) Kamil Abdulvagabov (RUS) taking bronze. Amanulla Rasulov (RUS) won the Kadyrov Cup over Ramzan Bulatov (RUS) with Abdulkerim Abdulaev (RUS) and Osman Gocen (TUR) taking bronze.

The U23 World Championships caused multiple changes in the top ten of the rankings and before I get too deep into the specifics of it, I want to address the rankings movement of two athletes, #11 Artur Naifonov (RUS) and #20 Max McEnelly (USA), who while not competing at the U23 World Championships, have head to head wins over athletes who did compete.

#11 Artur Naifonov (RUS), the consensus #3 in the world from 2019-2024 behind World/Olympic champions Hassan Yazdani (IRI) and David Taylor (USA), is a three time World/Olympic bronze medalist who’s only losses at the Senior World and Olympic championships were to four time World/Olympic champion Hassan Yazdani (IRI). Naifonov’s fall out of the top ten this year was due to an upset loss he suffered to two-time Olympian #10 Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov (BLR) in the semifinals of the European Championships, the same competition where he beat now #7 Arsenii Dzhioev (AZE), #9 Eugeniu Mihalcaen (MDA), and #11 Rakhim Magamadov (FRA).

Due to Naifonov’s top ten wins over #2 Magomed Ramazanov (BUL), #6 Hayato Ishiguro (JPN), #7 Arsenii Dzhioev (AZE), and #9 Eugeniu Mihalcaen (MDA), he is able to move up six spots in the rankings to #5 behind #4 Ibragim Kadiev (who beat him in this year’s Russian National Finals) and two-time 92 KG world champion #3 Kamran Ghasempour (who beat him in the 2018 U23 World finals) even with his loss to #14 Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov (BLR) from April.

#20 Max McEnelly (USA), a freshman standout for the University of Minnesota at 184lbs who took third at the 184lb NCAA Championships behind five-time NCAA Champion Carter Starocci (Penn State) and 2024 184LB NCAA Champion Parker Keckeisen (Northern Iowa), is on the opposite end of the spectrum to Naifonov in regards to ranking movement.

While McEnelly’s abilities and results are undeniable at this point, they do not translate to any movement due to the fact that his best win #10 Abolfazl Rahmani (IRI), while a Senior Asian Champion, was unranked at the time of McEnelly beating him (86 KG Junior World semifinals in July), Rahmani was unranked, and it would not be until October when he would upset Senior World 5th place finisher #7 (now #110 Rakhim Magamadov (FRA) in his bronze medal match at U23 World’s to earn his top ten spot in the rankings.

Due to McEnelly’s win over Rahmani occurring when Rahmani was not ranked along with McEnelly’s only international competition being the Junior World Championships and his second best win outside of Rahmani being 92 KG Senior World Team Trials runner-up Aeoden Sinclair (USA) he can’t move up in the rankings.

#16 Arsen Balayan (RUS) won the U23 World Championships over Eugeniu Mihalcaen (MDA) with Abolfazl Rahmani (IRI) and #8 Ali Tcokaev (AZE) taking bronze. #16 Arsen Balayan (RUS) moves up eight spots in the rankings to #8 for beating #8 (now #12) Ali Tcokaev (AZE) and #9 Eugeniu Mihalcaen (MDA). Eugeniu Mihalcaen (MDA) returns to the rankings at #9 for beating #7 (now #11) Rakhim Magamadov (FRA) and #10 Abolfazl Rahmani (IRI) to make the U23 World Finals. Abolfazl Rahmani (IRI) takes the #10 spot in the rankings for beating #11 Rakhim Magamadov (FRA) for bronze at U23 World’s. At RAF 2, Nate Jackson (USA) beat Carter Starocci (USA) 7-2 at 190lb. #15 Kyle Dake (USA) beat Boris Makoev (SVK) 7-1 at RAF 2.

92 KG

Mustafagadzhi Malachdibirov (RUS) won the Khadartsev Brothers Cup over Akhmed Mirzabegov (RUS) with #11 Azamat Zakuev (RUS) and Magomed Sharipov (BRN) taking bronze. Akhmed Mirzabegov (RUS) enters the rankings at #10 for beating #11 (now #15) Azamat Zakuev (RUS) and #8 (now #11) Batyrbek Tsakulov (SVK) to make the finals of the Khadartsev Brothers Cup; Tsakulov injury defaulted in repechage and did not face Zakuev in the bronze medal match. Mustafagadzhi Malachdibirov (RUS) returns to the 92 KG rankings at #9 for beating #10 Akhmed Mirzabegov (RUS) in the finals of the Khadartsev Brothers Cup.

Tazhitin Akaev (RUS) won the Kadyrov Cup over #10 (now #14) Yusup Khadzhi Aidaev (RUS) with #12 (now #16) Ashkab Saadulaev (RUS) and #17 (now #20) Nurgun Sergin (RUS) taking bronze. Tazhitin Akaev (RUS) takes the #13 spot in the rankings for winning the Kadyrov Cup over #14 Yusup Khadzhi Aidaev (RUS) along with notching a win over #16 Ashkab Saadulaev (RUS) in the quarterfinals of the Kadyrov Cup.

#15 Mohammad Azimi (IRI) won the U23 World Championships over Mukhammad Takhir Khaniev (RUS) with Sherzod Poyonov (UZB) and Magomed Sharipov (BRN) taking bronze. #15 Mohammad Azimi (IRI) moves up thirteen spots to #2 in the rankings for beating #2 (now #3) Joshua Barr (USA) in the quarterfinals of the U23 World Championships; Barr injury defaulted out after the quarterfinals and took tenth place.

Pound for Pound

#3 Chermen Valiev (ALB) was removed from the rankings due undergoing knee surgery for a knee injury suffered in his 74 KG Senior World finals match against #2 Kota Takahashi (JPN). Mitchell Mesenbrink (USA) is back in the rankings at #20 for beating 70 KG Senior World Champion #21 Yosinosuke Aoyagi (JPN) at the 74 KG U23 World Championships semifinals.
